Sweet Sayings

This is all from this weekend...August 11 and 12, 2012

Nathan was playing with his Noah's Ark wooden toy from Mimi and Granddaddy.  He has just now figured out how to construct it himself and then march the little animals inside.  I showed him one time how to build it and he got it!!  Well, after he was good on his own, building it and having the animals go in, I went to empty the dishwasher.  He called me in and said, "Mommy, your turn!"  So, I said, okay.  He disassembled his ark so that I could take a turn at building it back up.  He started putting it back together himself, though.  So, I just enjoyed it, watching him switch parts from his right hand to his left hand so he could place them in the right notch.  Then, after about 3 pieces, he looked up at me and said, "I forgot.  It's your turn."  It was PRECIOUS!  I told him that was okay and I liked watching him do it, or something to that effect.  So, he kept on building.  :)

The past couple of days he'll be looking out the window of the car and will say, "That's strange."  One time he was talking about a truck.  There was nothing strange about it.  The other occasions that he said it, I had no idea what he was talking about.  It must be something I say.  In the car, I guess.

We went to the mall after church on Sunday.  I wanted to go to a specific store, but had no idea where in the mall it was.  So, right after we walked in, we stopped at the directory board.  Looking over the map, I said to myself, "Now where are we?"  I was looking for the "Your are Here" star.  Nathan casually answered me, "We're at the mall!"  :)  Hahhaha!

Something else just hit my brain...these things didn't necessarily happen this weekend...just lately.  He likes to park in the shade.  And usually when we are walking back to our car he will comment on how we parked in the shade.  It's just funny to me.  Secondly, when we are walking in parking lots, he looks to find the train tracks.  These train tracks he refers to are the crossing lines painted on the asphalt.  You know the white slanted lines, contained in an outlined rectangle, for crosswalks?  He pretends they are train tracks and we commonly will say "choo choo," or "there's Brendam Docks," which is  a Thomas the Train reference.

That's all for now :)

Sweet Sayings

Today, Nathan and I went to the post office, the library, and the park.  While at the park he saw a rock and said, "That's a big rock ever!"  He meant that rock was the biggest rock ever!  He has started saying this often..."ever."  But he never uses it correctly, paired with a superlative adjective.  It is so cute...I mean, he is the cute thing ever!

Tonight, while praying, Dave prayed first, then offered Nathan his turn.  Nathan said, "Thank you for sky, doughnuts, libraries, mommy and daddy, doughnuts."  He has never eaten a doughnut and hasn't seen one recently.  It was totally random and funny.

Sweet Sayings

8/5/2012
Nathan spilled his bowl of cereal onto the carpet.  He didn't mean to, so when I came back to the scene of the spill with a towel in hand, he said, "It was an askident, Mommy."

Nathan recently has enjoyed playing flugtag with his legos.  He says, "Let's play Lego Land, Mommy!"

While washing hands after going pee pee in the potty, Nathan almost knocked over the crystal vase on the bathroom counter.  He said, "That wouldn't be good!"

Sweet Sayings

Today Nathan and I and Jenn and Luke went to the Florida Aquarium in Tampa.  It was neat to see the alligators, gar, fish, seahorses, and sting rays.  They also had a splash pad area for the kids to run around in their bathing suits.  Nathan especially enjoyed a little slide at the water park.

Tonight, when we were reading our devotion, we were learning about what it meant to be blessed.  The devo asked if 'you wanted to be blessed?' to which Nathan answered, "No."  I said, "You don't want to be blessed?"  He replied, "I want to be perfect."  I told him he just about was...just like my daddy says to me ;)

Then, when we were saying goodnight, I said, "I love you, Nathan."  And he replied without coaching, "I love you, too."  It was a first :) <3

Sweet Sayings

prayer time:
every night, we try to read the bible, do a devotion, and pray.  On late nights, we just get the praying in.  Lately, Nathan has started to pray, too.  The first time he said, "Dear Jesus,"  {then he looks up at me and said, 'what the other one?' and I tell him God} "Dear God, mameupaeraksdnfadlkja,  madl;jfadfakdmf, mumble mumble mumble, thank you for the sky and the sun. AAaaaaaamen!"  Then he said he wanted to pray more some.  "Dear Jesus, mumble mumble mumble, mumble, thank you for daddy and mommmy and mom-mom."

Then, last night, he was thanking Jesus for:  his dumptruck, his airplane, flugtag, the sun, the moon, the sky, and the sun.  It was PRICELESS!  I've GOT to get this on video!

Sweet Sayings

I have so many Nathanisms to share.  I've got scraps of paper and whiteboards full of them. I need to write them down before I lose them.

About a month ago:
{July 2012}
Nathan and I were playing baseball with imaginary bats, balls, and bases.  We'd take turn pitching and hitting and running the bases.  I pitched one and he hit it over the fence.  Here's how the conversation went:
Nathan:  Over the fence!
Me:  yeah, its history, gone, forget about it {Sandlot references}
Nathan:  Here's another ball.  A purple one.  {He reaches from the arm of the couch to get this "ball" to hand to me}
Me:  A purple one, huh?
Nathan:  Yeah.
Me:  Where'd you get a purple ball from?
Nathan:  From the couch!
Me:  {laughing} From the couch?!
Nathan:  {referencing one arm of the couch} One didn't have any, but the other arm of couch did. {Then he goes, "see?" as he hands me an imaginary ball.

This whole scenario cracks me up because everything about what we were playing was imagined...right down to the balls, bats, bases, and where the ball goes.  Yet, he finds a purple ball on the COUCH!  Like, it is so normal.  In the midst of this imaginary game, he references the couch.  It just cracks me up!

July 2012
Nathan and I were at JoAnne's Fabric and we passed by some magazines for kids.  One of them had a picture of Nemo.  Nathan emphatically said, "Like at the pet store!!!!!!!" as he pointed at the magazine with Nemo.  It was so cute because we had recently been to the pet store where clown fish were being sold.

July 29, 2012
Nathan and I were at the grocery store.  We had talked about going to the playground or park, but we ran out of time and I needed to go to the grocery store.  Still, he had  a grand time.  He got to ride in the shopping cart that has the race car wheel, eat cheese and snacks, look at other boys and girls, and just talk with me about anything.  I think he loves going to the store.  Anyway, I was putting him back in his carseat after putting the groceries in the trunk and this is how our conversation went exactly:
Me:  Did you have fun in the grocery store with the race car cart?
Nathan:  No, I didn't have fun.  It wasn't the playground, so, I didn't have fun.

July 27, 2012
We had gone to Wednesday night church as a family. Nathan went into the nursery like he owned it.  No tears, no fears.  It was a first for us!  We were so excited.  On the drive home from church, we were asking him if he had fun and if he liked it:
Dave:  Did you like the nursery?
Nathan: Yes. I didn't like the nursery.
Dave:  Why not?
Nathan:  Because there too many people.
Dave:  There were only, like, 5 people there!
Nathan:  Maybe I don't like 5 people.

July 27, 2012
We have the big canvas of Nathan sitting in the field hanging on our wall in the bedroom.  I love it!  Nathan and I were slowly waking up one morning and he was looking at the picture, contemplating it.  He said that there was 1 white flower.  And more yellow flowers.  Then this dialogue follows:
Nathan:  I don't like that picture.
Me:  Why?
Nathan:  Because.... {he trailed off without completing his reasoning}
Me:  Why don't you like that picture, Nay Nay?
Nathan:  There's too many flowers.
{a few minutes pass}
Nathan:  I'm gonna get it {meaning, the picture} all gone, and you're gonna say, 'Hey! Where my picture go?'
{a few minute pass and he's ready to get out of bed and trying to get me out, too}
Nathan:  Come on, Mommy or Get up, Mommy.  I'm gonna show you somp'in cool.

August 3
I was folding clothes.  Nathan was playing "flugtag" with every toy in his toybox.  I asked him if he would play me a song on the piano.  He said, "I can't, Mommy.  I'm working right now.  Not today.  Tomorrow."

July 2012
We let Nathan come into "big church" with us, trying to teach him that he has to be quiet and sit still.  Once we got in the pew and got settled in, the preacher started preaching.  Nathan says to me, "He not bein' quiet!"

July 2012
"Smile at me, Mommy."  He looks up at me, squinches his eyes, and gives a fake smile.  He does this when he knows I'm not pleased with his behavior.  Mostly, when I'm expressing how unhappy I am that he went pee pee in his underwear instead of the potty.

One consequence to his pee peeing in his underwear instead of the potty is sitting on the time out chair, in the corner.  He is not allowed to talk, or time gets added on.  He has realized that if he tells me he has to go pee pee while sitting in time out, I will let him get up and go.  Once he does, he says, "I don't have to do anymore time.  You happy."  At first, I was letting him out of his time out sentence, because I didn't want to give mixed signals of time out when he told me he had to go pee pee.  Then  I realized he was totally playing me!!

And that's something else he's caught onto...making me happy.  If he does something wrong and I get onto him, he will come kiss me and will say, "That make you happy?"  What a booger!!!

He's also started saying, "I'm sorry.  I won't do it again.  Forgive me, please?"  Which is what I've tried to teach him when apologizing...it's so cute that he is starting to do it on his own.

That's all I can think of/find right now...hopefully I won't save them up for so long now!!
