Sweet Sayings

Nathan is so full of life, expression, and energy!  He is a mocking bird, copying what he hears and sees.  He is loving and will kiss you.  He is rambunctious and will try to "bowl you over!"  He is sly and will try to get by with some mischief.  When he is found out, he quickly says, "I love you, Mommy," to soften the possible consequences.  Here are some really cute things that have been flying out of his mouth lately...by the way, this is, like, a 1% sampling of his spewings...they come just about every other word, which makes it hard to remember or race to write down.  Sometimes his sweet sayings come so quickly that I think, I should hurry and write that down, but then I decide to just enjoy it in that moment.  Here are some quips from the first quarter of 2013.  He is 3 years old.

1.  He calls GT and the Halo Express, "GT and the Holy Comspress."
2.  He is constantly in pretend mode.  Some of his favorite people/characters to pretend to be are:

a.  Brother Bear {from Berenstain Bears} and I am usually Sister Bear.  One night, he kept calling me into his room for various things, after we tucked him in for the night.  He didn't call for Mommy...he called, "Sis!"
b.  GT and I am Christy...he liked the "blue" CD where there were rats in Paul's prison cell and Christy is grossed out by them.  He took his Thomas the Train baseball bat, put it up to his eye and pretended to "comsplode" the rats.  Sometimes, I'm just Billy Baxter with my low voice and he is himself and we just talk.
c.  Huckle Cat {from Busytown Mysteries} and I am usually Sally.  We pretty much spent the entire day yesterday as these two characters.
d.  Lowly the worm {from Busytown Mysteries} and I am Hilda the Hippo.
e.  Uncle Si {from Duck Dynasty} and I am usually "Driver Girl" = Sadie or "Yellow Girl" = Jessica or "Pink Girl" = Missy.  {Side note:  Some of Nathan's favorite Si quotes are, "Durn right you, you heifer," or "I'm gettin' OUT!" which I'm not even sure that's Si, but the mannerisms fit, because as he says it, he forces his hand out in a tomahawk fashion.  Others are, "I'm not doin' it!" or "He gowne!"
f.  Caden/Christian and everyone else is assigned to be the remaining members of the Custer clan.

3.  His favorites things to watch right now are Busytown Mysteries, Thomas the Train, and Berenstain Bears.  When I've had enough of those things, he will settle for Duck Dynasty.

4.  On my half day of work, I came home and was going to change clothes so that we could play trains, per his request.  I told him I was gonna change and then I'll be right back to play.  He said, "Can you leave that one on so it can look wonderful?" as he reached out and touched my shirt.  I had a shirt on that was fluffy/decorative around the neckline and he didn't want me to take that one off.  :)

5.  He was playing at Caden and Christian's house and Nathan was eating a pretzel.  He said to Ziggy, "No Begging."  Then, he continued to eat, commenting to Esther that, "He looks nervous."

6.  To Dave, he said, "I'm playin' with your fur," referring to arm/leg hair.

7.  Nathan was pretending to hop on a pogo stick.  I told him what a good job he did and that he went for a while!  I asked him how many he did {how many bounces} and he said, "I did 5-teen."

8.  Nathan was playing trains and started making one of them go in circles.  He did it in such a fashion that he had to go in circles, too.  After the spinning stopped, he dizzily said, "I feel my house is gonna tip over!"

9.  He decided he was done "comsploding" rats and was going to put his gun/bat away.  He said he was going to put it in a "soup-case."

10.  He was talking about some character...probably Too Tall {from Berenstain Bears} or Billy Baxter and he said, "He's a lot of mean."

11.  Mama and Daddy bought Nathan a Busytown Airport game.  There are many pieces and characters and airplanes and he loves it!  He told Mimi, "I'm happy about this game."

12.  At the breakfast bar at Mama and Daddy's house, Nathan said something so softly that I couldn't hear it.  I think he meant for me not to hear it.  Anyway, I asked him to repeat it and he said, "I didn't say something," meaning he didn't say anything.

13.  Conversation between Mimi and Nathan:
Mimi:  Nathan, do you need to go pee-pee?
Nathan:  No
Mimi:  When was the last time you went?
Nathan:  {With a funny expression} Oh, last Tuesday or Wednesday.

14.  Mama made some biscuits and Nathan had never had any before.  I asked him if he wanted one and he said, "I don't know biscuits."

15.  After inspecting a wrinkle in Daddy's chin, Nathan said, "Granddaddy, you might have a crack."

Sweet Sayings

This post is severely overdue.  In fact, I've missed so many cute, sweet sayings that I could fill a whole notebook.  They just come so fast and often now and I can't keep up.  I try to say to myself...remember that!  And I never do.  Life moves and I have to chase it :)  Anyway, here are some really cute things that Nathan has said the past two weeks.  {December 2012}

1.  Nathan stepped on some Lego pieces at Caden and Christians' house and it punctured the bottom of his foot.  The next day, I asked him how his foot was and he said, "It's pretty better.  It's gettin' there.  It's gettin' there."

2.  We were reading a book called A Walk to the Park.  The last page has a picture of three little boys, playing with boats in the city pond.  One of the boys has his hand in the water.  Nathan asked why the boy was doing that.  I answered that I don't know.  So, he responded, "Maybe [he's reaching for] a cookie, or a pretzel, or a sandwich."  These were totally random, as we had just woken up and were reading in bed.  Not even a morsel of breakfast had we eaten, yet less lunch foods!

3.  Dave and Nathan went shopping for a Christmas tree by themselves.  Dave was culling the trees and setting aside the "bad ones," as he noted to Nathan.  Well, along came another family with a little girl.  Nathan went up to the little girl and said, "These are the bad ones!"

4.  Nathan asked me to read to him...here's how he asked, without a breath in between:  "Mommy, will you read to me?  Mommy, I don't know how to read.  Mommy, you do great."

5.  Nathan brought a big stack of books into the living room.  He could barely carry all of them without dropping.  He said, "I got enough.  Nough, nough, nough."

6.  We were watching the Polar Express movie.  I commented how it was the first movie he'd ever "watched," because he was very interested in it and watched a large portion of it last year at Mimi and Granddaddy's house.  He asked, "when I was a baby?"  I said, "You were almost a big boy."  He lowers himself by bending his knees a little bit.  Then he says, "Like this?"  We laughed and confirmed.  Then, he said, "Watch me grow."  He went up on his tip toes.  :)  His little ankle popped.  He heard it and commented, "Sometimes it do's that," as he makes a popping noise with his mouth/tongue.

7.  "I gotta get a book for homework."  He gets this from Caden and Christian.

8.  He was being adorable and I told him, "I could just eat you up."  He says in return, "You don't have a big mouth!"

9.  Soon to be naptime, he says to me, "It's not time to go to bed right now.  I want to do a couple of things...liiiikkkkeee...puzzle-ling, reading, aaaannnd, puzzle-ling."

10.  We rode the Schwinn for the first time and while pedaling he said, "I'm gonna race like the wind!"  Then,  after racing, he slowed and said, "My legs are gonna fall off."

11.  I had instructed him to sit down and eat.  A little while after the command, he says, "Mommy, I gotta stand up.  My bootie's got a little itch.  I gotta get it out.  That's okay."

12.  We were at Panera and he eyed some beautifully decorated Christmas cookies in the bakery section.  He told me, "I want those [cookies] tomorrow when I grow up, okay?"

13.  I put gel in his hair and spiked it up.  He normally hates to have his hair gelled, but somehow, I got him to not flatten it down.  Anyway, later, he said, with no other conversation around the subject of hair, "My hair looks silly.  My hair looks crazy."

14.  We had a long day and we had missed his nap that day.  He fell asleep on the way to the park.  I woke him up.  He didn't want to get up, even though it was the park.  I said, "Don't you want to play at the playground?"  He groggily slurred, "No, I'm just tired.  My eyes are resting."  Finally he agreed to wake and play, as we only had an hour before dark.  He said, "I'm gotta open my eyes first."  He rubs his eyes.  Then he said, "There."

15.  We were at Macy's.  He saw some manequins with no heads.  He loudly and passionately exclaimed, "Look!  They don't have any heads!!!!"  Then he went over to them and touched their belly because they were modeling sports bras and exercise bottoms.  He got a kick out of touching their bellies.

16.  While at Macy's.  I was shopping a clearance rack.  He stood at the end of the rack and looked at the big red sign with white letters spelling out "clearance."  He stood there and pointed and said each letter, "C, L, E, A, R, A, N, C, E."  I had to help him with one or two.  He did the same thing in the car after the mall.  He had some crayons and wanted to color.  I did n't have any paper for him to color on, so I offered an empty Banana Republic shopping bag that was white with the exception of the black letters.  He started spelling out B A N A N A R E P U B L I C.  I had to help with only a couple of letters.  He is amazing!!! We've only worked minimally on his letters.  Then, when at the park, there was a tic tack toe game {large, where the letters spin around} and he started singing the alphabet song!!!  He is so smart!!!! :)

Sweet Sayings

I have collected quite a few sweet sayings from Little Bear the past few weeks.  These are pretty much from the past 2 weeks, I'd say.

Today, while staying with Miss Esther, Nathan sneezed three times in a row.  After the third time, he said, "That's annoying!"

This was a while ago, so there's a possibility I might have recorded it previously.  Just in case I didn't, I will share here.  When washing his hands, he almost knocked over the crystal vase and he said, "That wouldn't be good."

Nathan was taking out all of the batteries that were in a package of batteries.  He started counting them.  He made it through ten and then proceeded in a different scale...ending his count on "eleventeen."

We got a Hess firetruck at a garage sale.  He loves it.  It has buttons you can push and different sirens will sound.  One button only activates the lights, causing them to blink.  Nathan commented that the lights were blinking, "like eyes."  Isn't that so smart?!  Making the correlation between blinking eyes and blinking lights.  It just blows my mind!  Still playing with the fire engine truck, Nathan made some other entertaining observations.  On each side of the truck, Hess has placed it's logo, which is just it's name in green lettering.  Nathan pointed to each logo, or sign, as he referred to them, and "read" to me what the signs said.  He was so emphatic.  Nathan said, "Mommy, this one says, "water. hose."  And he said it just like it was puncutated with a period after each word.  The other signs he read to me were:
"Put. That. Fire. Out."
"Drive. the. Wheel."
"Climb. Up. That. Ladder."

Recently, Miss Esther and Nathan were playing and Nathan was singing one of his favorite songs, "Little Red Caboose."  He knows many of the words and it is so enjoyable to hear him strike up a tune anywhere, anytime.  Miss Esther told Nathan that he sings that song well.  His response?  "No, I don't.  I'm lame."

Miss Esther took Nathan to the countryside mall to ride the train.  While climbing into his seat, he told Miss Esther, "I'm gonna climb on board."  Then while riding the train, he commented to her, "This train really moves!"

While driving home one day, Nathan and I had a little conversation that went like this:
Nate:  Are you going fast?
Me:  Yes, I'm going fast.
Nate:  A police is going to chase you.
Me:  Why?
Nate:  Because you need tickets.
Me:  Why?  What do you know about tickets?
Nate:  Because you're going too fast.
What's interesting, though, is that I've learned that he thinks tickets are good.  Whenever we are playing and he is pretending to go fast, he'll say that he needs tickets.  I pretend to hand him some and he cheerfully says thank you. ;)

Another short, but sweet conversation:
Me:  You want some water, Nay Nay?
Nate:  Yes.  Of course.

When I ask him random questions and his answer is 'yes, I am,'  He says, "Yes I ma'am."

He says yes ma'am to everyone...regardless of whether the other person is a boy.  Just the other day, he was talking to Granddaddy on the phone and he was asking Nathan a lot of questions.  Nathan manner-fully answered, "yes ma'am," to many of them.

Again, we were driving one day and we had a little conversation: {It has been raining quite heavily and as a result, there were big puddles in the road.}
Me:  Look at the splashes those cars are making!
Nate:  You car go there.  {meaning, he wanted me to drive over there so that our car would make big splashes.}
Me:  You want to go there?
Nathan:  Yes.
Me:  Okay.  We turn onto the road, but the puddles were on the roadside opposite of ours.
Nathan:  Are we on the splash road?

Nathan came up to me to give me a big kiss.  After he grabbed my face and pulled my lips to his, he said, "That was a lovely kiss!"

A few times last week, Nathan helped me cook.  I let him pour in the flour, cheese, salt, pepper, and help me stir.  He got a hold of the pepper and was wanting to sprinkle some.  I warned him not to put any on the food without Mommy's help.  He thought for a brief second and then said, "Mommy, help me, please."

Last week, Fig Newtons were on sale.  Dave loves them and we haven't bought them in a while.  So, I got a couple of packages.  Dave wasn't home yet from golf and Nathan was getting hungrier by the minute while I was making dinner.  He grabbed the Fig Newtons and asked to have one.  I told him those were Daddy's, but that he might share with him when he gets home.  Dave called.  Nathan talked to him on the phone.  The first thing on his mind to talk to him about was those Fig Newtons.  He asked if he could have some?  If Dave would share with him.  Dave had no idea what he was talking about.  Nathan walked over to the counter, looked up at the package, {maybe even patted it, I can't remember totally} and said, "These right here.  Can I have some of these?"  He couldn't understand that Dave couldn't see them on the phone!!!!

Nathan was sitting closely with me.  We were talking ever so gently to each other.  Here is some of our conversation:
Nathan:  Do you like roaches?
Me:  No!
Nathan:  Do you like ladybugs?
Me:  Yes.
Nathan:  Do you like spiders?
Me:  No.  I do not like spiders.
Nathan:  They probably tickle.
While saying that last line, Nathan was nodding his head and tilting it, in his special little way.  And all the while, he was talking so gently.  So when he said that last line, he was almost like an adult trying to empathize with some one.  It was so cute.

Often, I will check the weather by sticking my head out the front door.  Lately, it's been overcast and I have a hankering for some fall crispiness.  So, I've been checking to see if the overcast weather has brought a slight chill.  {it hasn't!}  Anyway, I told Nathan one time that I was going to check the weather.  I commented that it was a beautiful day.  So, a few days later, I got up to go into the kitchen.  He must've thought that I was headed to the front door.  He says, "Are you going to check the wedder?  It's a beautiful day for the wedder?"  Sooo sweet!!!

Nathan finished playing trains and asked me this:  "Mommy, I want to watch DVD...is that a good plan, Mommy?"  So innocent and sweet and impressionable.  I always say, "does that sound like a good plan?  Or, that's a good plan."  :)

Here are some pictures from a visit we made to the Seminole City Park to feed the ducks.  This is one of my all time favorite things to do with Nathan.  This day, he really enjoyed collecting sticks and throwing them into the water.  I have so many more pics to post, but these are all I have today.  I'll work on the rest from this little outing soon and post.

Sweet Sayings

Yesterday morning, Nathan greeted me with, "Good Mornin', Mommy!"  He was so expressive.  The he followed it up with, "Let's play, Mommy!"  Then, he rolled over and said, "I like that picture now."  The same canvas print that he a few weeks back had commented that he didn't like because it had too many flowers.  I asked him why he liked it now, but he never answered.  It was such a wonderful start to my day :)

Then, last night when it was time to pray, Nathan went first.  He said, "Thank you for Tim Tebow."  Awwww!  So precious!  We're all thankful for him and his heart and it's so neat that Nathan thanked God for him and didn't even realize what he was doing.  Then he continued to thank God for the my sun, my ps-ghetti, my sky, etc.  I love to hear him pray. :)

Sweet Sayings

These all happened this week or last week. {last week of August 2012}

1.  Football was on.  Not Tebow's team.  One of the teams was running the ball and gaining yardage.  Nathan says expressively, "Stop him!  Stop him!  Stop him, Tebow!  Stop playing games!"

2.  Nathan and I were playing trains.  He has one that is a milk freight car.  It was looking like it had the possibility of coming off the tracks.  I mentioned that if the milk spilled, somebody wouldn't be happy about it.  I was referring to him, as he is a milk-aholic.  I think I explained to him that because he liked milk so much, he wouldn't be happy about it if it spilled over. Well, a few seconds later, Nathan accidentally tipped the milk car off of the tracks.  He looked at me and said, "I'm happy of that,"  meaning that he was not upset that the milk tipped over.

3.  Our washing machine had to be repaired.  Two men came to fix it.  Nathan was not shy at all with them.  He said, "Hey, Mans!  You want to play ball?" and "What you doin', Mans?"  I love that he made it plural.  It was so cute.  Unfortunately, the men didn't give him the time of day and didn't appreciate his adorable-ness.

4.  Nathan had two great nursery experiences at church last week, once in the am and once in the pm.  He was happy, no crying, etc.  Then, later that night, when we put him to sleep, he told Dave, "I missed you at the nursery."  :( and :)

5.  For some reason, Nathan's bike helmet has made itself inside.  He put it on this morning and said he was a fireman.  I said, "Hello, Fireman Nathan."  He wore it for a little while, but when it came to eating breakfast, he wanted to take it off.  He asked me to take it off and then he said, "I'm still Fireman Nathan."

6.  We recently started watching "The Berenstain Bears" on TV.  It is the most wholesome, respectful, lesson-teaching show!  So glad we discovered it!  Anyway, the song is one that will stick in your head.  So, we watched it one morning this week and later in the day, while I was doing some dishes, I called out to Nathan, "You know what song is in my head, Nathan?  The Berenstain Bear song is stuck in my head."  He came over to me at the sink.  He looked up at me, with seeming purpose.  He cocked his head, the way he always does.  Then he said, "It's not on your head, Mommy."  Just as serious as anything!!!!  I was laughing and it made me laugh later time and time again!  So cute!

7.  We were painting.  I started painting objects that started with letters and then I would paint the letter.  Then, I would ask Nathan what letter that was.  Some he knew, some he didn't.  I happened to draw two things that started with the letter "A."  This is how the conversation went:
Me:  Nathan, what is that?
Nathan:  Apple.
Me:  Yes!  Apple starts with the letter A.
{I paint something else that started with A and I can't remember it now.}
Me:  Nathan, what's this?
Nathan:  {whatever it was}
Me:  Yes!  It starts with A, too.  Hey, A, A. {Pointing to A for apple and A for whatever the other thing was.}  Same, same.
Nathan:  {looks down and away and softly says}You're killin' me, Mommy.

Ahhh hahaha!  I was laughing.  This, of course, is a line from The Sandlot "You're killin' me, Smalls."

8.  Nathan says as he lays on Pip, "I'm enjoying Pip."

9.  I was in the laundry room doing laundry and came to check on Nathan in the living room.  He was sitting on the floor.  I asked him if he was okay.  He said he was and, "I was just playing baseball."  Then he pretended to pitch with a pretend ball and glove.  So, I pretend to swing with a pretend bat.  Then he makes a really funny face, almost like something smelled bad kind of face.  Then he says, "I was just playing with Squints...Go away, Mommy, please."  {Squints is a character from The Sandlot movie.}  So,  I went back to laundry.  Later I check in with him.  "I'm still playin' with Squints."  He was still sitting on the floor.  I think he was pretending that a cardboard box was the fence.  Anyway, the whole thing was funny and kind of weird.  He was acting funny.

Sweet Sayings

This is all from this weekend...August 11 and 12, 2012

Nathan was playing with his Noah's Ark wooden toy from Mimi and Granddaddy.  He has just now figured out how to construct it himself and then march the little animals inside.  I showed him one time how to build it and he got it!!  Well, after he was good on his own, building it and having the animals go in, I went to empty the dishwasher.  He called me in and said, "Mommy, your turn!"  So, I said, okay.  He disassembled his ark so that I could take a turn at building it back up.  He started putting it back together himself, though.  So, I just enjoyed it, watching him switch parts from his right hand to his left hand so he could place them in the right notch.  Then, after about 3 pieces, he looked up at me and said, "I forgot.  It's your turn."  It was PRECIOUS!  I told him that was okay and I liked watching him do it, or something to that effect.  So, he kept on building.  :)

The past couple of days he'll be looking out the window of the car and will say, "That's strange."  One time he was talking about a truck.  There was nothing strange about it.  The other occasions that he said it, I had no idea what he was talking about.  It must be something I say.  In the car, I guess.

We went to the mall after church on Sunday.  I wanted to go to a specific store, but had no idea where in the mall it was.  So, right after we walked in, we stopped at the directory board.  Looking over the map, I said to myself, "Now where are we?"  I was looking for the "Your are Here" star.  Nathan casually answered me, "We're at the mall!"  :)  Hahhaha!

Something else just hit my brain...these things didn't necessarily happen this weekend...just lately.  He likes to park in the shade.  And usually when we are walking back to our car he will comment on how we parked in the shade.  It's just funny to me.  Secondly, when we are walking in parking lots, he looks to find the train tracks.  These train tracks he refers to are the crossing lines painted on the asphalt.  You know the white slanted lines, contained in an outlined rectangle, for crosswalks?  He pretends they are train tracks and we commonly will say "choo choo," or "there's Brendam Docks," which is  a Thomas the Train reference.

That's all for now :)

Sweet Sayings

Today, Nathan and I went to the post office, the library, and the park.  While at the park he saw a rock and said, "That's a big rock ever!"  He meant that rock was the biggest rock ever!  He has started saying this often..."ever."  But he never uses it correctly, paired with a superlative adjective.  It is so cute...I mean, he is the cute thing ever!

Tonight, while praying, Dave prayed first, then offered Nathan his turn.  Nathan said, "Thank you for sky, doughnuts, libraries, mommy and daddy, doughnuts."  He has never eaten a doughnut and hasn't seen one recently.  It was totally random and funny.
